Making a Song

How I make a song

It all begins when
  • 1. when I hear an inspiring song, or
  • 2. If someones birthday is drawing near.
Going now with
1. I listen to the song that inspired me, and I say “I want to make a song like THIS!” then I see what the instruments are, what the style is what the drum beat is etc. Next, I create the lyrics, which, in for me is the hardest part. I generally don’t create very many lyrics, only about, two verses and the chorus, and occasionally the bridge (if there is one). After I have made the lyrics, I write them down into my phone, and pick up a guitar.
After a little while of plucking about, I come up with the chords I like. I might not even use the guitar once in the song, but I always use the guitar to decide on my chords. After I have decided on my chords, I then decide on a melody. I know for some people, they invent the melody before the chords, even I have on a small few songs, but generally it’s chords first with me. If the song has drums, I go onto PXTone Collage, search through my samples,
and make a drum beat in the similar style as the song that inspired me. I then export my drum beat, and open up Adobe Audition.
Now, much of the song I make up impromptu, and the only melody I make up before hand is the lyric melodies, and then, even those change sometimes!
Eventually though, I record the entire song, do some neatening up (which I am happy to report, I need to do less and less these days) production, and stuff. And then I export the song. If the song is cool enough, I upload it onto soundcloud, and then I’m done!

2. If I’m making a song for someone in particular, then It’s a slightly different story. The song style I choose upon what kind of style I think they might like. (sometimes I ask the person directly) and then I make lyrics. Lyrics for birthday songs are also harder, because I cannot make them just for me. So I take more time to make the perfect lyrics, and then the perfect music. Sometimes, the song style changes completely from what my original intentions were. My song for my dad, Coffee was an example of that. It was originally going to be a Delirious?/Muse styled song. Instead, it turned into a falsetto layered “only guitar” kind of song!
Anyways, after all that, the creation process is much the same as type 1.
the exportation process
